Guests and nights in platform-related accommodations
This discussion paper describes a method to estimate the number of tourists and their overnight stays in platform-related accommodations, such as Airbnb and Booking.
The estimation is based on data obtained through the web scraping of the listings and reviews. Through text mining it is attempted to extract the size of the travel party and the number of overnight stays from the text of the reviews. The figures, which are published in the paper, are experimental.
