Export Conditions

The visualisation of Export Conditions was developed by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) to analyse changes in exports of goods in the Netherlands and place them in context. Six indicators, selected on the basis of econometric research, can be used to monitor whether conditions for Dutch exports have changed in a favourable or unfavourable direction.

Exports conditions: less unfavourable

The climate for Dutch exports was less unfavourable in May 2026 than it had been the previous month. Since the previous month, new data have become available for all indicators. Three indicators deteriorated, two improved and one remained the same. The climate for Dutch exports is largely determined by developments in the main market for Dutch exports - Germany and the eurozone - and changes in Dutch competitiveness. Although the indicators are strongly correlated with export activity, improved circumstances do not necessarily lead directly to export growth.

The real effective exchange rate became more favourable. Dutch manufacturers became less negative about their foreign orders. However, the contraction year on year of German manufacturing output was larger. Producer confidence in the euro area was more negative and European manufacturers became more negative about their foreign orders. German producer confidence remained equally negative.
