What does the survey comprise?
Purpose

To give a quantitative description of the composition of and changes in bank savings balances of private households. 

Target population

All savings accounts at Dutch banks in the name of natural persons and non-profit associations and foundations.

Statistical unit

Savings accounts of natural persons and non-profit associations and foundations. The number of accounts and the total amount of savings are published as variables.

Date/year survey started

January 1991.

Frequency

Monthly.

Publication strategy

All data are definite when published.

How is the survey conducted?
Survey type

Statistics Netherlands does not conduct a survey of its own, but uses data from the Dutch Central Bank

Survey method

Secondary observation is used. The Dutch Central Bank collects data from reporting banks and supplies these data to Statistics Netherlands.

Respondents

All banks that are legally required to report data to the Dutch Central Bank.
