For the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Statistics Netherlands (CBS) measures the ‘consumption abroad’ product group on the basis of price changes published by statistical agencies in other countries. These international figures are published monthly around the same time as the figures for the Netherlands, but CBS always uses the data from the previous month to calculate the CPI. For instance, the price change for consumption abroad in August is calculated using the international figures for July. Price changes abroad are therefore reflected in the one month later.
