Happiness
Whether or not people are happy is determined by asking them the following question: ‘On a scale from 1 to 10, indicate to what extent you see yourself as a happy person, where 1 means completely unhappy and 10 means completely happy.’
Respondents are then placed into three groups: those with a score of 1 to 4 (‘unhappy’), those with a score of 5 or 6 (‘neither happy nor unhappy’) and those with a score of 7 to 10 (‘happy’).
