The poverty line

The poverty line is based on minimum requirements for subsistence. The poverty line for a household depends on the type of household. If a household consists of more people, more money is needed to be able to participate in society. The amounts required (excluding rent) are determined by Nibud for 10 different types of households.

Housing costs are based on social housing rents after deduction of housing benefit. In addition to money for housing, energy, insurance, clothing and daily groceries, this also includes, for example, a telephone, internet access and social activities.
