Poverty

In order to determine whether a household is living in poverty, the household’s disposable income is compared with the minimum necessary budget (including rent). If the income is below the poverty line, the household is classified as living in poverty.

In line with the new method for measuring poverty in the Netherlands, poverty figures have also been developed for the Caribbean Netherlands. Initially, these are based solely on the Nibud sample budgets. The possibility of incorporating a wealth component and taking individual expenses (such as rent) into account is also being looked into.
