Young adults entering the housing market for the first time
These are people who buy or rent a home for the first time, after having been in a dependent position within the household (a child living with their parents, another member of the household or a resident in an institutional home) and who, after moving house, assumed an independent position in a household (for example, a single person household, a partner in a couple, or a parent in a single-parent family).
First-time buyers can also be people who move to the Netherlands from abroad. Children who move to the Netherlands from another country are also referred to as people entering the housing market for the first time. This does not refer to first-time buyers (households buying their first home, regardless of whether they have already moved into the home or are planning to).
