Renewable energy

Energy from renewable, non-fossil sources, namely: wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, geothermal heat, heat from soil, outside air (aerothermy) and surface water, and renewable cooling.
The amount of renewable energy is calculated using the definitions and calculation rules laid down in the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

A new version of the RED (RED III) took effect from the 2025 reporting year. Compared to RED II, several new targets have been added and existing targets have been adjusted. The most significant difference for the calculation of the total share of renewable energy is that the supply of biofuels to international shipping (bunkering) is now included in both the numerator and the denominator.
