Youth rehabilitation is supervision and guidance for young people aged 12 and over who, before they turn 18, have come into contact with the police or a truancy officer. For young adults aged 18 to 22, juvenile criminal law may also be applied under the adolescent criminal justice system, if the offender’s level of development warrants this. The young person receives tailored support from a youth probation officer to prevent them from reoffending.
Youth rehabilitation may be imposed by the juvenile court or the public prosecution service. Youth probation may also be initiated on a voluntary basis at the initiative of the Child Protection Board. Back to article
