Following family members

Following family members are family members of asylum seekers who have already travelled to the Netherlands and been issues with a residence permit. The family members have already arrived in the Netherlands and were issued with a residence permit upon entry.

In order to bring family members to the Netherlands, an asylum seeker with a residence or asylum permit needs to apply for a provisional residence permit (MVV) for the relevant family member(s). This application must be submitted within three months of obtaining their asylum permit. Once granted, a provisional residence permit is valid for 90 days. The family member(s) can collect the permit at the embassy of the Netherlands in their country (consular services) and then travel to the Netherlands. When they arrive in the Netherlands, the provisional residence permit is converted into an asylum permit.
