Goods in transit

The flow of goods that, while being transported from one country to another, passes through Dutch territory but remains in foreign ownership.
Unlike re-exports, goods in transit within the European Union are not counted as imports and exports under the concept of transfer of ownership; after all, the goods never come into Dutch possession.

When goods transit via the Netherlands to or from countries outside the European Union, this flow forms part of trade statistics because the goods leave or enter the EU, which means that the relevant customs authorities record this. The transit of goods to or from countries outside the European Union is referred to as ‘quasi-transit’.
