Electric bicycle

A bicycle with an electric motor that assists the rider. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) has been recording the number of fatalities involving electric bikes since 2016. The number of deaths involving electric bicycles is a lower limit.

CBS has to rely on the type of bicycle mentioned in the Public Prosecutor's official report or on the medical certificate of cause of death. In these reports often no distinction is made between regular bicycles and electric bicycles. In this case, these cycling fatalities are included in the category of regular bicycles.
