Working people
A person's main source of income, or socioeconomic category (SEC), is determined on the basis of income sources and educational attainment. When determining the socioeconomic category, more weighting is given to income from self-employment, because this income may be low or negative, even if the person works many hours per week. Attending full-time education is also given higher priority. In these cases, persons are classified as self-employed or pupils/students if they did not have a substantial income from other sources. Contributing family workers (20 thousand in 2024) were not taken into account in this news release.
