According to provisional data on 2023, the number of people living in poverty reached 538 thousand (3.1 percent). According to the definitive figures, 477 thousand people were living in poverty in 2023. That was the equivalent of 2.7 percent, which was a fall of 0.4 percentage points. The difference between the preliminary and final data for 2023 was due in part to the availability of data on housing and energy costs. This could not be included in the preliminary 2023 figure because it did not become available until the spring of 2025. In addition, the rent reduction that benefited nearly 600 thousand households from 1 July 2023 was only reflected in the final figures.
