Societal issues

In the 2024 survey on Social Cohesion and Well-Being, young people were asked about their opinions on four societal issues. The same questions were asked in 2018. Only the question about the number of people in the Netherlands was phrased slightly differently at the time: in 2018, the question referred to population density.

The questions and response options in 2024 were as follows:

2) To what extent do you think the number of people in the Netherlands is a problem?
(In 2018, this was phrased as: To what extent do you think population density is a problem in the Netherlands?)
3) To what extent do you think people’s mentality is a problem in the Netherlands?
4) To what extent do you think environmental pollution is a problem in the Netherlands?

Response options:
1. No problem.
2. A minor problem
3. Not a minor problem, but not a big one either
4. A big problem
5. A major problem
6. Don't know
7. Refuses to answer
