Active substance

The quantity (kilograms) of active substance is calculated based on the content of the ac-tive substance in the plant protection product as it is known before the authorisation. Co-formulants are not included in the statistic. If no other content is available, the microbiolog-ical agents have been calculated using the technical specifications for the relevant sub-stance. This results in a slightly higher volume in kilograms but makes use of these sub-stances easier to see in the results.
Substances added separately during spraying to enhance efficacy (adjuvants) are not con-sidered. The method used to ask for figures from participating companies and convert these into nationwide figures in the 2024 survey was similar to the 2020 survey. Participation was digital only, and direct provision of data from a register was not possible.

The survey was conducted among agricultural and horticultural holdings, which reported using in a form and were able to do so based on the registration of usage. This means that the scale of the use of products to disinfect seeds in sugar beets, for example, or the post-harvest treatment of products that took place at buyers' premises was not examined. Only the agents used to cultivate crops were examined.
