Particulate matter

Particulate matter consists of larger or smaller particles that remain suspended in the air. In this news release, particulate matter refers to particles with a diameter of up to 10 micrometres, or PM10. PM stands for Particulate Matter. PM10 includes particles up to 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5). PM2.5 is often mentioned separately because these are the smaller particles, which can penetrate deeper into the lungs and are therefore more harmful.
