The excretion of nitrogen compounds in livestock manure, excluding gaseous losses in the form of ammonia and other nitrogen compounds that occur during the storage of manure. Nitrogen compounds that escape into the air while manure is being stored, during grazing and during manure spreading are referred to as nitrogen emissions.
