The business confidence indicator reflects the mood among business owners in the private sector (excluding the financial sector) in the Netherlands. The index is compiled for each sector individually, on the basis of survey questions about recent developments and expectations. The same questions are asked across every sector, and concern current economic conditions.
Business confidence is then compiled using a weighted average of business confidence in each sector. The questions used to gauge business confidence are taken from the Netherlands Business Survey (COEN). This survey is conducted among companies with 5 or more employees in the private sector (excluding the financial sector; i.e. banks, insurance companies and pension funds). Back to article
