Roughage is the predominant feed for cattle, horses and sheep. It usually consists of silage grass, fresh grass and silage maize. Unlike feed concentrates, roughage has a high percentage content of (slowly digestible) fibre. Storage of roughage takes place in bales, silos and pits.
