StatLine is being updated

Update: Migration to new StatLine environment postponed

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) is planning to transfer its StatLine database to a new platform, a complex and extensive project. During the preparatory phase, it became clear that the new system cannot guarantee the performance that we require for our users at present. We have therefore decided not to migrate to the new platform at this time. No immediate action is required from users, and the existing StatLine database will remain available.

Quality first

A transition to a new platform is useful because it allows for better alignment with the functional requirements and technical capabilities of today. As part of this change, Statistics Netherlands aims to become part of a wider international open-source community and provide its statistics in SDMX, the international standard for metadata. However, during preparatory work for the switch, unexpected technical limitations were discovered in the new platform that could lead to a suboptimal user experience. Of course, Statistics Netherlands cannot compromise on quality, speed and user-friendliness, and so the planned migration has been postponed.

Statline remains available, no action required from users

For the time being, the existing StatLine environment will remain available, so users can continue to use it. For users of StatLine, the API and other technical functions, it is important to know that no changes will be made until further notice.

Fully committed

In the meantime, Statistics Netherlands remains committed to developing a platform that is fit for the future, so that we can continue to provide statistics on the Netherlands in the best and most user-friendly way possible. Incorporating international developments and standards such as SDMX remains a priority. We will inform users as soon as more information about the migration and the timeline becomes available.

Thank you for your input

Statistics Netherlands will ensure that our users have access to high-quality and user-friendly statistics, both now and in the future.
