More than one third of adults received care allowance

Under the Care Allowance Act  Dutch tax authorities paid an allowance to more than 38 percent of the population aged 18 years and older in 2006. A total 2.4 billion euro was paid out in these allowances.

Care allowance paid to 4.9 million people

In 2006 4.9 million people in the Netherlands, one third of the adult population, received  the so-called care allowance. This is the equivalent of 480 euro per claimant. The care allowance varied between 24 euro (minimum amount) and 1,155 euro (maximum amount) per year. As it is income-related,  the lower the (combined) income, the higher the allowance.
