Blaise® is a computer-assisted interviewing (CAI) system and survey processing tool developed by CBS (Statistics Netherlands) for official statistics and complex surveys. Since its conception in the 1980s, Blaise has become the go-to tool for complex survey production. A wide variety of studies are conducted with Blaise, such as social surveys, business and economic surveys, panel studies, and censuses.

Blaise connects over a hundred National Statistical Institutes and research organisations across the globe. Within this community, advanced users specify new product requirements. This guarantees that Blaise adapts to new challenges of the survey world continuously.

The latest version, Blaise 5, provides full control over every aspect of your survey process. The system helps you design questionnaires for all modes of interviewing such as computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI), computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI), computer-assisted self interviewing (CASI), or computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI). What is unique to Blaise 5 is that you design your questionnaire once, and can then run them on any device or software platform, online or offline. During your questionnaire design, you specify all layout aspects, screen wordings, and routing rules. This gives you full control over how your questionnaire looks and behaves in different interviewing modes and on varying screen sizes of your respondents' displays.

The video below shows Blaise 5's concepts of multimode, multi-device, multiplatform, multilingual and multinational questionnaires in action.
