Waar kom je te werken?CBS uses modern ICT and peer-reviewed methodology, continuously improves statistical processes and focusses on innovative statistical output. This approach has allowed CBS to acquired expertise in using big data for official statistics. In September 2016, CBS has launched its Center for Big Data Statistics (CBDS) where all big data activities within CBS are concentrated. Through CBDS, CBS has become a world expert in research and modelling trends using big data for official statistics. The aim of CBDS is using big data to produce official statistics faster, at a lower geographical level and to reduce the response burden posed by questionnaires on individuals and companies. To keep its leading position, CBDS has built a network with more than 40 different national and international parties including companies, start-ups, knowledge institutes and governmental organisations. The themes on which the CBDS working programme focusses are safety, health, mobility, energy, new economic indicators, tourism and the labour and housing market. The possibilities big data offers are growing and the demand for accurate and reliable information in society follows a similar pace. The CBDS aim is to respond to this demand in a dynamic and challenging working environment.
Het werkTo strengthen our activities in the field of big data and data science, CBDS offers interesting and challenging internships to enthusiastic students. These internships are a combination of product development and innovative scientific research in the area of big data. The focus is usually on a specific area of interest such as statistical inference, visualization, machine learning, natural language processing or another artificial intelligence technique or optimizing large scale processing of big data. Examples of previously undertaken research projects are: identifying start-ups in the Netherlands by using web page data, estimating the number of tourists in Texel with social media, measuring changes in economic development with traffic intensity and shipping data and finding ways to measure Sustainable Developments Goal indicators.
- You are enrolled in higher professional or university education with a specific subject area: data science, statistics/actuarial science, econometrics, mathematics, artificial intelligence or a discipline related to data science, such as bioinformatics or computational linguistics.
- basic programming skills in either R, Python or Java are highly recommended.
- Curious and eager to learn
- Critical, creative, optimistic, a team player and strong ethical sense
- Good writing and oral skills in English are a requirement
