From 7 through 9 March 2017, a Global Cities Summit is being held in Dubai. The organisation is in the hands of the World Council on City Data (WCCD), the global leader in standardised urban metrics and specialised in certification of cities around the world. Representing Statistiscs Netherlands (CBS) at this event are CBS Director General Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi and programme director of the Urban Data Centres, Robert Hermans. They are joined by representatives from the CBS Urban Data Centres of Eindhoven and Heerlen and from the municipality of Zwolle.
The overarching theme of this global meet is the importance of connecting and harmonising local, national and transnational data. Another key concept covered by this summit are the Urban Data Centres (UDCs) which were introduced by CBS. Countries and cities present at the summit have already shown great interest in learning from CBS’ experience in this area.
CBS has reached international cooperation agreements with Tata Trust India and with representatives of the National Treasury South Africa Cities Support Programme. Furthermore, CBS has agreed to offer customised solutions to introduce the UDC concept to Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg in South Africa.
In addition, CBS has made specific follow-up appointments with the cities of Eindhoven and Heerlen for further development of the UDCs. Talks have also been held with the city of Zwolle in the run-up to the launch of the UDC Zwolle.
