General information on the use of CBS open data

The web services are based on the open standards of the OData protocol version 4. More information can be found on the website odata.org or the Wikipedia page on open data.

For the time being only a limited part of the CBS datasets is available through OData 4. The full StatLine database is available through the OData 3 data portal. Consulting figures can be done through the StatLine interface .

More information on the conditions for use of the open data facility is provided in the ‘Open data disclaimer’ (Dutch only). It states for example that open data may be used and re-used free of charge and that quoting of the source is mandatory.

Manuals and explanations on the use of open data can be found under ‘Information for data analysts’ and ‘Information for developers’.

All CBS datasets can also be accessed through the data portal of the Dutch government.

The data portal has a search function (under development), but the datasets can also be browsed by catalogue and by theme. Each dataset contains a brief description and a link to the web service. The portal offers a preview and a csv download (under development).

Once a year CBS organises a Open Data public session. It maintains a LinkedIn group ‘Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek; Open Data’ for announcements and questions.
