Further reduction traffic deaths
Last year, 720 people were killed on Dutch roads, a reduction by 30 (4 percent) relative to 2008. The reduction is mainly recorded among 30 to 60-year-olds and motorists.
Motorcycle and licence ownership up among the over-50s
On 1 January of this year, there were nearly 680 thousand registered motorcycles in the Netherlands. This is 4 percent more than in 2014.
Traffic deaths down again
640 people were killed in traffic accidents in the Netherlands in 2010. This is 11 percent fewer than the 720 deaths in 2009, and continues the downward trend observed in the last few years.
Fewer road traffic deaths in 2021
In 2021, 582 people in the Netherlands died as a result of road traffic accidents. This is 28 fewer than in 2020 and the lowest number since 2015.
Decline in road fatalities larger among motorists than cyclists
The number of traffic deaths has decreased more sharply among motorists than among cyclists over the past two decades.
610 traffic deaths in 2020
In 2020, traffic accidents killed a total of 610 people in the Netherlands.
