As of 2021, the transitional period following the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union came to an end. Trade with Northern Ireland will remain part of Intra-Union trade as of 2021. It remains compulsory for companies with a duty to report their trade with Northern Ireland to Statistics Netherlands. Country code XI will be used for this purpose. Trade with the rest of the United Kingdom is subject to customs controls from 2021 onwards, and the obligation to submit declarations to Statistics Netherlands does not apply. For the rest of the United Kingdom the country code XU is used.
