Publication strategy

Figures in this table for the most recent year are provisional. Figures for all other years are definite.

How is the survey conducted?

Survey type

Combination of survey and registration data.

Survey method

The statistics are based on the following sources:

  • Databank DigiMV of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, with digital annual reports of enterprises and groups of enterprises financed or partly financed through the Health care insurance Act, the Long-term care Act and/or the Youth Act;
  • Register of the Dutch Health Authority (NZa) with long-term care data;
  • Annual reports of health care enterprises;
  • Figures on jobs and wages are based on annual data from the Social Statistics Database (SSB). Matching by a unique key variable, e.g. the enterprise identifier (BEID), results in a ‘linked employer-employee dataset (LEED)’ for Dutch enterprises and employees.

Respondents

Data are provided by the following organisations; Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and Dutch Health Authority (NZa).

Sample size

  • The study is based on a full observation of health care enterprises financed fully or partially by health care laws (Health care insurance Act, Long-term care Act and Youth Act).
  • The largest of the other enterprises are added to the data if annual reports are available
  • Smaller enterprises where no annual reports are available are estimated using their number of jobs from the ‘linked employer-employee dataset (LEED)’. The LEED data is also used for the total number of jobs and wages in the described health care classifications SIC 2008.

Checking and correction methods

Statements are checked in terms of accuracy, consistency and completeness. Missing and incorrect data are estimated on the basis of available annual reports, survey data from earlier periods or survey data from comparable institutions.

Weighting

The missing data from large institutions are estimated at the level of the individual institution. For small institutions, missing observations are imputed using the sample means of the respective stratum. A stratum is classified using SIC class and number of persons employed. For small enterprises with less then 10 employees we only publish few figures on jobs and wages, no elaborate profit/loss or balance sheets.

Quality of the results

Accuracy

Due to non-response, a margin of error should be taken into account. Therefore, the sums of money in the table are rounded to the nearest million euros.

Sequential comparability

Annual figures published in this table are comparable.

Quality strategy

Checks are carried out for completeness, internal and external consistency and plausibility of the collected internal and external data. Where necessary, corrections are applied.
