Steady growth exports in January

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that the volume of goods exported in January 2017 was 5.7 percent up from January 2016. Growth was somewhat below the level of the previous month. In January exports of machinery and appliances, (basic) metal and chemical products rose noticeably. Exports of Dutch products and re-exports were higher than one year previously. The volume of imports was 4.0 percent up in January on a year-on-year basis. Six to seven weeks after the end of the month under review, CBS always publishes the most recent export and import figures.

The CBS Exports Radar indicates that circumstances for exports are considerably more favourable in March than in January and February.

Circumstances for Dutch exports much more favourable in March

According to the CBS Exports Radar, circumstances for Dutch exports are considerably more favourable in Mach than in January. Conditions are largely determined by recent developments on the major export markets for Dutch products and by the competitive position of the Netherlands.

March’s Exports Radar shows that exchange rates have improved significantly compared to January. Opinions of Dutch and European manufacturers about their foreign orders and European producer confidence have also improved. The development of Germany’s manufacturing output, on the other hand, was less favourable than in January.

Goods exports account for approximately three-quarters of total exports. CBS does not publish monthly data on exports of services. Data on total exports are published on a quarterly and annual basis. The data in this publication are provisional and can be subject to adjustments.
