Manufacturing output up
The average daily output generated by Dutch manufacturing industry was 2.0 percent up in January 2014 from twelve months previously. In December 2013, output grew by 2.1 percent relative to December 2012.
Output increased nearly across the board, but most notably in the sector electrical products and machinery (9.6 percent). With 7.1 percent growth, output levels in the sector transport equipment were also considerably higher than in January 2013. Output generated by the sector food, drinks and tobacco products and the sector basic metal products improved by 1.4 and 1.2 percent respectively. Output realised by the sector petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products, on the other hand, declined by 0.7 percent.

Seasonally adjusted figures provide a more reliable picture of short-term output developments. Output fell by 3.1 percent in January 2014 relative to December 2013. Production declined across all sectors. In December 2013, manufacturing output reached the highest level in six years.
