Prices on Bonaire 1.2 percent up

In Q3 2019, consumer prices on Bonaire were 1.2 percent higher than one year previously. Prices also rose on St Eustatius and Saba, by 0.7 percent and 0.3 percent year-on-year respectively. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on the basis of the consumer price index.

On Bonaire, the year-on-year price increase was caused by price developments of clothing and footwear, food and transport. Clothing and footwear were 6.6 percent and food 4.2 percent more expensive. Prices of fresh fruit and vegetables hardly changed in the past quarter but were still higher than one year previously, by 33.4 percent and 15.6 percent respectively. Petrol was 4.1 percent and diesel 5.0 percent more expensive.

Consumer prices on Statia 0.7 percent up

In Q3 2019, consumer prices on St Eustatius were 0.7 percent higher compared to one year previously. The highest year-on-year increase was on account of clothing (11.1 percent) and footwear (22.5 percent). Electricity rose by 2.5 percent in Q3 due to an increase in the variable rate. However, electricity prices were down by 1.7 percent year-on-year, which had a downward effect on consumer prices.

Prices on Saba more or less stable

In Q3 2019, prices of goods and services on Saba were on average 0.3 percent up year-on-year. Clothing, fresh fruit and vegetables rose in price. Fresh fruit and vegetables were 28.5 and 9.4 percent more expensive respectively. Petrol was 6.0 percent more expensive while electricity was 13.7 percent cheaper.
