In order to determine how many young people leave the parental home in a certain calendar year, all persons aged 15 to 40 years (age on 31 December) have been selected who held the household position of ‘child living at home’ at the start of the year and another position at the end of the year. Those who pass away or emigrate during the year have been excluded. The average age is calculated using a mortality table.
