Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that the volume of investments in tangible fixed assets was 8.4 percent up in August 2017 relative to the same month last year. The year-on-year growth is slightly smaller than in the preceding month. In August, investments in residential property, machinery and passenger cars in particular were up again.

Investment data have not been adjusted for calendar effects. August 2017 has the same number of working days as August 2016. According to the CBS Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands is less favourable in October than in August.

Investment climate less favourable in October

Every month, CBS publishes updates on the investment climate in the CBS Investment Radar. Circumstances relevant for investments are, on the one hand, the situation on the commodity markets, and on the other hand, the availability of financial means. Although the Radar indicators show a strong correlation with investments in fixed assets, improved circumstances are not necessarily translated into increased growth in investments.

According to the CBS Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands is less favourable in October compared to August, mainly because the growth of exports on a yearly basis was less substantial. In addition, opinions of Dutch manufacturers about their order books and consumer confidence also deteriorated slightly compared to August.
