Minerals policy

The Dutch policy on fertilisers (Minerals policy) is based on the Manure law (Meststoffenwet) and on the Decision on the use of fertilisers (Besluit Gebruik Meststoffen) as part of the Soil Protection Act (Wet Bodembescherming or WBB). The European Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEG), which entered into force in 1991, was implemented as part of the Manure law.
As stipulated by the Manure law, an evaluation of this law takes place at least once every five years. On 30 March 2017 the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency published the results of the ‘2016 Manure Law Evaluation’ on their website.
