Short and long holidays

A holiday is defined as a stay outside one’s own home for leisure or recreational purposes. The concept covers domestic and foreign holidays. Staying at the homes of relatives or friends abroad is included. Staying at the homes of relatives or friends in the Netherlands is not included, unless they are away from home for most or all of the time. The Continuous Holiday Survey distinguishes between short and long holidays. A short holiday includes no more than 3 consecutive overnight stays; a long holiday includes at least 4 consecutive overnight stays.
