Estimated number of live births if average number of children is higher
The number of live births has been estimated using the age-specific fertility rates applicable in 2008. The population at risk, i.e. women in the reproductive age on 1 January 2017 is available and for 1 January 2018 based on the most recent CBS population forecast.
Multiplication of the age-specific fertility rates for 2008 by the applicable population at risk results in an estimate of 185 thousand live births in 2017.
On the basis of the seasonal pattern, the number of live births in Q1 2017 was estimated at 44 thousand, provided that the age-specific fertility rate of 2008 would have applied in 2017.
