Guests in overnight accommodations in 2012

As from reference year 2012, figures on overnight accommodations can no longer be compared to previous years. There are several reasons for this:

  1. Compliance with international rules with respect to demarcation of the population. The most important adaptation is the reduction from 20 to 10 beds for holiday parks and group accommodations. The effects are negligible, because the number of small accommodations is relatively low.
  2. Extension of the number of sources for annual revision of the survey population
  3. Revision of the analysis method, i.e. a different strategy to deal with non-response. On the regional level, coastal and non-coastal areas can be distinguished.

Figures on 2012 have been compiled according to the old and the new method. On StatLine, the series 1998-2012 can be accessed under the theme ‘Archief’ and the new series starting in 2012 under the theme ‘Vrije tijd en cultuur’.
In the publications Toerisme in Cijfers 2013 and Toerisme in Nederland 2012, the figures were still compiled according to the old method to facilitate comparability with previous years. The figures in this article are compiled according to the new method.
