All persons over the AOW age limit who live or have lived in the Netherlands are entitled to AOW. A person’s current country of residence is irrelevant in this respect. Consequently, the number of persons entitled to AOW is larger than the number of persons entitled to AOW living in the Netherlands. Today, 10 percent of AOW recipients are living outside the Netherlands. The bill that was recently passed will also reduce the number of AOW recipients living abroad. Back to article
