Transport costs

Transport costs are paid to the transport company. The maximum transport rates are set by the Energy Chamber, a department of the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa). There is no competition between regional energy grid operators, because there is only one operator in each region.
Transport rates are divided into:

  1. Fixed transport costs (fixed rate): customers pay a fixed monthly, quarterly or annual amount plus rental charges for gas and electricity meters.
  2. Capacity rate
Capacity rate is a fixed annual rate for transport based upon the capacity of the electricity and gas supply connections of the individual consumer. On 1 January 2009, the variable transport rate per kWh and per m³ for private consumers was replaced by a capacity rate for private consumers.
