Unemployment up in January

Seasonally adjusted unemployment in the Netherlands stood at 474 thousand in January 2012, i.e. 18 thousand above the level in December 2011.

Unemployment increased among men and women and in all age categories (15-24, 25-44 and 45-64).

The unemployment rate in the Dutch labour force was 6.0 percent in January. The rate for men was 5.9 and for women 6.2. With 11.3 percent, unemployment was highest in the age category 15-24. The unemployment rates among 25 to 44-year-olds and 45 to 64-year-olds were 5.6 and 5.1 percent respectively.
