Quarterly data can be converted to data on an annual basis by summing the previous four quarters. The result id the moving annual total. This corrects for seasonal effects in the quarterly figures and recent quarterly figures can be compared with annual results. The moving annual total for the fourth quarter corresponds exactly to the figures for the whole calendar year.
