Mood among manufacturers improved

The mood among Dutch manufacturers improved in September. The producer confidence indicator rose from – 3.3 in August to – 0.5 in September. In the five preceding months, producer confidence had slumped.

Producer confidence consists of three component indicators: manufacturers’ opinions on their order positions, the expected output over the next three months and opinions on their stocks of finished products.

Manufacturers’ opinions on their order positions and their stocks of finished products improved considerably. Expectations on their future output over the next three months were also more positive than in August.

Manufacturers were more pessimistic about future employment in their branch in September than one month previously. With 102.2, the order position index (orders expressed in months of work) was somewhat lower than in August.
