Employment  recovers further

The number of jobs of employees was 25 thousand higher in the fourth quarter of 2010 than in the fourth quarter of 2009. Following one and a half years of decrease, for the first time employment was higher than in the same quarter one year previously.

Altogether, there were nearly 7.9 million employee jobs in the Netherlands in the fourth quarter of 2010, full-time jobs as well as part-time jobs. In terms of full-time equivalents this comes to 5.9 million jobs, slightly higher than one year ago.

Employment is subject to seasonal variation. After adjusting for seasonal effects, the number of jobs in the fourth quarter was 0.3 percent higher than in the third quarter. The quarter-on-quarter employment figure increased for the third quarter in a row. The number of jobs increased most notably in the sectors health care and temp agencies.
