Bird Directive

The European Bird directive attempts to improve or preserve bird populations. Basically, there are two ways of doing this: the protection of particular habitats and a comprehensive protection system. In the Netherlands, 83 so-called Bird directive regions were designated; 65 were also designated, because they are considered important for migrating and hibernating birds. Currently, all wetlands are also Bird directive regions.
