East European origin

People referred to in this article as eastern Europeans, include all persons from:
- Albania
- Bulgaria
- the former German Democratic Republic (GDR)
- Hungary
- Former Yugoslavia
- Poland
- Romania
- Former Soviet Union
- Former Czechoslovakia

It concerns the first generation (persons born in one of the countries mentioned above and at least one of their parents born abroad) as well as the second generation (persons born in the Netherlands and at least one of their parents born in one of the countries mentioned above).
Since 1 January 1995, data on first and second-generation Eastern Europeans are annually available. In the period prior to 1995, such information was only available for 1 January 1990 and 1 January 1992.
To enhance the comprehensibility of this article, the term east Europeans refers to persons of east European descent.
