On 1 November 2004, measures came into effect under which a person wishing to marry someone living abroad must comply with stricter regulations: the minimum age of the person living in the Netherlands must be 21 years (formerly 18 years), and his or her income must equal 120 percent of the statutory minimum wage (formerly 100 percent).
