Smaller decrease in manufacturing turnover

Manufacturing turnover was 22 percent lower in August than one year previously. The decrease is slightly smaller than in July, when it was 24 percent down. Over half of August’s turnover decrease was the result of lower prices.

Turnover decreased across the board in August. With a loss of over 40 percent, the transport equipment sector was hit hardest. In the sector producing petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products and the (basic) metal industry, turnover also fell by more than average. At 4 percent, the smallest turnover loss was recorded in the food, drinks and tobacco sector.

Compared with August 2008, turnover on the domestic and the foreign market decreased by 19 and 24 percent respectively.
