Religious denomination

In the Integrated System of Social Surveys (POLS) conducted by Statistics Netherlands, people are invited to state their religious denomination or the religious or philosophical movement they consider themselves to belong to. Possible answers are:
• no religious denomination
• Roman Catholic
• Dutch Reformed
• Calvinist
• Protestant Church in the Netherlands
• Islam
• other.
The Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN) came into being on 1 May 2004 as a merger of the Dutch Reformed Church, the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands and the Evangelical Lutheran Church. As most members of the original protestant denominations do not identify with the PKN, Dutch Reformed and Calvinist congregations have been retained as separate categories.
